One study compared turmeric to exercise on endothelial function over eight weeks. Researchers found that eating about a teaspoon a day of turmeric was comparable to 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day.

4. Turmeric Helps Treat One of The Most Deadly Cancers
If turmeric only helped prevent or treat pancreatic cancer, then it is worth the hype.
Pancreatic Cancer is one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of cancer. It’s the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States and kills 32,000 people a year.
Pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of only 3% and an average survival of just six months.
The only FDA approved therapies for pancreatic cancer help less than 10% of patients while causing severe side effects to the majority.
What about curcumin?
One study found that curcumin helped reduce tumor size in 2 out of 21 patients. The effect may seem small, but there were no curcumin-related side effects up to 8 grams a day.

5. Turmeric Can Help Eliminate Colon Cancer
Turmeric can both help reverse and remove the cause of colon cancer.
One study gave 15 colorectal cancer patients a turmeric extract daily for up to 4 months. The turmeric extract appeared to stall the disease in 5 out of 15 patients.
With almost no downside, a one-in-three benefit for end-stage cancer is promising. If turmeric can help patients with advanced colon cancer, what about prevention?
Colon polyps, small growths on the lining of your colon, can eventually develop into colon cancer.
In one study, researches gave curcumin and quercetin supplements to five patients with a disease that causes hundreds of polyps. On average, all the patients had fewer than half their polyps after six months. And the remaining polyps had shrunk in half.
Another study put 44 smokers on a turmeric curcumin supplement for a month. The researches measured changes in their aberrant crypt foci, which act as a precursor to polyps.
After one month, there was a significant drop in the aberrant crypt foci in the high dose group. But there was no change in the low dose group.

Diabetes is a disease in which your blood sugar (glucose) is too high.
Insulin is a hormone that transports glucose to your cells to give them energy. With type 2 diabetes, your body does not make enough insulin, or it doesn’t work correctly.
Without insulin, glucose stays in your blood and can eventually damage your eyes, kidneys, and nerves.

The researchers concluded that curcumin is a promising and safe treatment for ulcerative colitis with no reported side effects.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which your immune system attacks the nucleus of your cells and often your DNA itself. Therefore, lupus can damage any organ system and help initiate almost any disease.
Researchers estimate that hundreds of thousands or even millions of Americans have lupus. And women are nine times more likely to get lupus than men!
Lupus drugs have severe or life-threatening side effects, including bladder cancer, leukemia, and infertility.

One study tested 24 patients with relapsing or untreatable lupus nephritis. Researches randomized the patients into two groups. The turmeric group received 500 mg of turmeric a day, and the control group received a placebo.
In the control group, three patients got better, three got worse, and the rest stayed the same.
In the turmeric group, one got worse, one stayed the same, and the majority got better. Patients in the study improved their untreatable lupus with about 5 cents worth of turmeric a day without any side effects!

12. Turmeric Is a Natural Pain Killer
In India, curry, a spice containing turmeric, has been used for centuries as a trusted remedy for traumatic pain and fatigue.
Having surgery is a painful experience. Turmeric offers a natural alternative to pain medication without side effects.
One study tested the efficacy of turmeric curcumin in pain and fatigue following gallbladder removal. Researches gave fifty gallbladder patients curcumin or a placebo following surgery.
In the weeks following surgery, those in the turmeric group had a dramatic drop in their reported pain and fatigue scores. The control group had enough pain to take 39 rescue painkillers, but the curcumin group only needed to take seven.

13. Turmeric Can Relieve Arthritis Pain
Turmeric can help treat both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the joints and progressively breaks down cartilage and bone.
Almost 80% of RA patients become disabled after 20 years, and 20–30% become permanently within three years of diagnosis.
RA drugs have severe side effects, including blood loss, bone loss, bone marrow suppression, and toxicity to the liver. Turmeric may work just as well without harmful side effects.
In one study, researchers randomized 45 rheumatoid arthritis patients into three groups: curcumin, standard drug group, or both. The primary goal of the study was a reduction in disease activity and a reduction in joint tenderness and swelling.
All three groups improved. But the curcumin group had the highest percentage of improvement, significantly better than the drug group.
Not only did curcumin alone relieve pain better than the leading drug, but it also had no apparent adverse side effects.
What about osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis, the loss of cartilage in your joints, is the most common cause of physical disability among older adults in the world.
It’s not just a problem of aging as it’s becoming more common among younger people as well. As many as 20% of people in America and Northern Europe will develop the disease by 2030.
Chronic low-grade inflammation from a Western diet is a primary cause of osteoarthritis. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, how well does it work?
One study tested the efficacy and safety of turmeric in patients with knee osteoarthritis. One hundred and seven patients were randomized to receive either 800 mg of ibuprofen per day or 2 g turmeric extracts per day for six weeks.
The turmeric group did just as good or better than the ibuprofen group. If turmeric worked as well as a drug, why choose turmeric? Drugs have side effects.
